...to their disciples, and so on and so on through the ages. Stop your ears, therefore, when any one speaks to you at variance with Jesus Christ, who was descended from David, and was also of Mary; who was truly born, and did eat and drink. He was truly persecuted under Pontius Pilate; He was truly crucified, and [truly] died, in the sight of beings in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth. He was also truly raised from the dead, His Father quickening Him, even as after the same manner His Father will so raise up us who believe in Him by Christ Jesus, apart from whom we do not possess the true life. – Ignatius, Epistle to the Trallians, Chapter 9 (around...

BOOK REVIEW: Four Views on Hell 2nd edition

...ed by any disciples – as was successfully done in rejecting the long-held but unbiblical RC teachings of Papacy, Mariolatry, Purgatory etc. Burk concludes by claiming “the existence of hell serves to demonstrate eternally the glory of God’s justice in his judgment on sin.” (42) As a counterpoint, under CI, God’s holy wrath finds full expression in His definitive eradication of both sin and sinner. Wesleyan scholar Truesdale actually asks fellow believers to choose between CI and CU (‘reconciliationism’) in order to replace ECT, owing to the intolerable tension ECT produces: “The belief that God is Holy Love as we understand this, and the not...

26 Differences Between Muhammad and Jesus

...opped his disciples from causing violence. (Luke 9:53–55; 22:49–51) Muhammad killed captives taken in battle (Ibn Ishaq 451)  ? Jesus never took captives and never killed anyone. Muhammad encouraged his men to rape enslaved women (Abu Dawood 2150, Qur’an 4:24)  ? Jesus never encouraged rape and never enslaved women. Muhammad demanded captured slaves and a fifth of all other loot taken in war (Qur’an 8:41)  ? Jesus took no booty or charity. He taught, “The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve.” (Matthew 20:28) Muhammad was never tortured but tortured others (Muslim 4131, Ibn Ishaq 436, 595, 734, 764).  ? J...

The Deity of Christ in the Gospel of Matthew - Part 2

...ollow his disciples wherever they are until his return. His person is not limited to the location of his physical body — his temple. He has a nature which is transcendent, omnipresent, and unrestrained by space. In the book of Jeremiah, Jehovah describes himself as having this attribute (Jeremiah 23:23–24): ““Am I a God who is near,” declares the Lord, “And not a God far off? 24 Can a person hide himself in hiding places So that I do not see him?” declares the Lord. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the Lord” (see also Psalm 139). In Matthew 28:20 Jesus is claiming an attribute of God alone and thereby claiming to be Go...

Coffee With Jesus: Luke 24

Posted by Luke J. Wilson on 10th February 2023 in Devotional | Coffee with Jesus,Road to Emmaus, resurrection, eucharist
...Brief thoughts from daily devotions The road to Emmaus. A familiar story from the Gospel to many, though today as I read it, I noticed some things which I probably glossed over in previous times. At the start of this chapter we see that some of the women who followed Jesus had gone to the tomb with spices to prepare the body of Jesus, and yet were met with a few surprises: an open, empty tomb and some angels! They ran back to the group of apostles and other disciples to tell the exciting news, and what was their response? “[T]hese words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.” (v.11). They thought it was nonsense! Probably not the react...

7 things the Lord hates (spoiler: questioning doctrine isn't one of them)

...ou are my disciples" (Matt 7:16; Jn 13:35). There are ways to discuss and correct people who have wronged you (cf. Matt 18:15; Galatians 6:1), or who you think are saying/teaching the wrong things (cf. Acts 18:26), or times to just listen and wait (cf. James 1:19-20; Proverbs 18:13). "Jars of Clay: Cracked!" by nakedpastor David Hayward   The Kingdom of God is counter-culture. That means the ethics and morals often go against what secular culture says and approves of. Just look at the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. Everything Jesus says to do it practically the opposite of what you'd expect or want ...

What Really Happened at Nicaea?

My new book is out now!
Myth, History, and the Council That Shaped Christianity

For over 1,700 years, the Council of Nicaea (AD 325) has been burdened with claims that refuse to die. That Emperor Constantine invented the Trinity. That the divinity of Jesus was decided by political vote. That the Bible was assembled to suit imperial power. That Christianity reshaped itself by absorbing pagan ideas.

This book subjects those claims to serious historical scrutiny.
