Great is the Mystery of faith!

...ystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again!”. What we believe and live by in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus is a mystery! It is a strange and powerful thing that God did by sending his Son in the form of a human to grow, teach and ultimately die for us so that we can be made righteous and adopted into the family of God. I don’t think we’ll ever quite wrap our heads around it all fully. I’m going to end this with another poetic excerpt from Melito. I find this to be a very powerful image of what Jesus did for us. I get chills every time I read it. Take a moment to really ponder on these words as you read them a...

Did Jesus lead the first youth group?

...life and faith. I am especially reminded of Paul’s encouragement to Timothy in this regard: 1 Timothy 4:12“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” As we come to see the connections between Exodus 30:14 and Matthew 17:24–27, we gain a nuanced perspective on discipleship — one that appreciates the diverse ages and stages within the community following the footsteps of the Messiah.  I hope that this may encourage you in your faith if you are young still, or if you are a youth leader or pastor that you can hopefully see that even juvenile teenagers can still be entrust...

Jesus, Yahweh, And The Power Over The Storm

...still no faith?’ And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?’ In this account, Jesus’ actions mirror those attributed to Yahweh in Psalms 107, Psalms 89, and Job 9. The disciples, engulfed by a fierce storm, turn to Jesus in their desperation. His response is both commanding and comforting — He rebukes the wind and commands the sea to be still. The immediate ceasing of the storm astonishes the disciples, prompting them to question His true identity, sensing and realising there’s more to Jesus than meets the eye: “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey...

The Real St. Nicholas: A Man of Virtue, Not Violence

...nding the faith does not require violence or aggression. Instead, it calls for humility, courage, and a willingness to follow Christ’s example — even when it’s difficult. A Call to Live Like St. Nicholas As we prepare to celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas, let us set aside the myth of the slap and focus on the virtues he truly embodied. Jesus’ call to love our enemies, turn the other cheek, and pray for those who oppose us is as challenging now as it was then. Yet it is through living these principles that we reflect the heart of Christ to the world. The story of St. Nicholas is not one of fists but of open hands — hands extended in genero...

Keeping Christ in Xmas

Posted by Luke J. Wilson on 15th November 2023 in Christmas | xmas, christmas, history
...Christian faith. The Chi Rho Symbol The Chi Rho symbol, a monogram for Christ, combines the Greek letters Chi (Χ) and Rho (Ρ). This symbol has been employed in various contexts, including manuscripts, frescoes, and architectural elements of Christian basilicas and churches (and as the logo for this website). Its use spans different regions and periods, reflecting the symbol's enduring significance in Christian history. The Chi Rho symbol Understanding the linguistic history of “Xmas” and the symbolism of the Chi Rho provides a clearer perspective on these aspects of the Christmas tradition. Far from modern inventions, both are rooted in ancient lin...

What Really Happened at Nicaea?

My new book is out now!
Myth, History, and the Council That Shaped Christianity

For over 1,700 years, the Council of Nicaea (AD 325) has been burdened with claims that refuse to die. That Emperor Constantine invented the Trinity. That the divinity of Jesus was decided by political vote. That the Bible was assembled to suit imperial power. That Christianity reshaped itself by absorbing pagan ideas.

This book subjects those claims to serious historical scrutiny.
